Well, this morning I finally made it through the entire list of schools on the KHSAA Web-site. Just took about three hours to do it. I did find a couple dozen more schools that will have new head coaches this coming year. These are in addition to the ones that I announced in previous newsletters. I’ll take them in alphabetical order according to the name of the school.
ADAIR COUNTY: It did not take me long to find the first school with a new head coach. When you list the schools in the state in alphabetical order, Adair County is the top one. Barry Thrasher is the new head coach. James Turner has been head coach for many years.
ATHERTON: Melissa Earley is the new coach. Dean Zangari gives up the job after one year.
BREATHITT COUNTY: The position is listed as open on the KHSAA Site. Peggy Moore coached Breathitt for many years and took them to the State Tournament four straight years starting in 2008.
BROWN (private school located in Louisville): This position is also listed as open on the KHSAA Site. Jana Costner was head coach last year.
CORDIA: Kent Trivette is the new coach. Delores Robinson held the job last year.
DOSS: Listed as open. Nicole Lockett held the job last year.
ELLIOTT COUNTY: The new coach is listed as Denise Ison. Zachary Mayse was head coach last year.
FERN CREEK: The position is listed as open on the Site. Michelle Fries was head coach for about 4 years.
FORT CAMPBELL: The position is listed as open. Kenneth Jankowski held the job last season.
FORT KNOX: The schools on the military bases get a new coach just about every year. I assume that is because the personnel is constantly being shifted to other places. Anyway, Dana Beaven is the new coach. Peter Norman was head coach last year.
HAZARD: Tyson Gross is the new coach. Bill Fannin gives up the job after many years. Bill coached Hazard to both state titles in 1997, the “All “A” one in January and the regular Sweet Sixteen title in March.
JEFFERSONTOWN: The new coach is Stephanie Kemp. John Kyser was head coach for about three years.
LONE OAK: Josh Barnett leaves the head job at Paducah Tilghman so as to take the job at county rival Lone Oak. Mike Murphy was head coach at Lone Oak for severaql years.
McCREARY CENTRAL: Toby Curry was girls’ head coach at Russell County several years ago. Then he moved to Green County to coach the boys there. He is now back with the girls at McCreary Central. Joe Waters has been head coach at McCreary for several years.
NICHOLAS COUNTY: Erin Walker is the new head coach. Jennifer Cornett held the job for about four years.
RIVERSIDE CHRISTIAN: The new coach is Cassie Carter. Jeff Patrick coached the team last season.
ROSE HILL: The new coach is Steve Porter. Mark Watkins coached the team for the last couple of years.
ST. FRANCIS (another very small school in Louisville): The position is listed as open on the Site. Kendra Rice-Lockett coached the team last season.
TILGHMAN: Roderick Thomas is the new coach. Josh Barnett gives up the head job after about three years to take the head job at Lone Oak.
Now all I have to do is make the corrections on my Network records. That will take an average of about 40 minutes per school. But I don’t have to be in a hurry to get that done. I have all the new addresses in a special file on my address book. That will do until I have the time and energy to move them into a permanent spot on my records.
There are 19 schools on this list today. I have previously mentioned 37 schools with new coaches. That makes a total of 56 schools that will start next season with a different head coach than they ended last season. There may be a couple more before season starts.
I will be looking out for the schools that had the position listed as “open”. I want to get those coaches into the Network as soon as possible.

I have a quick question. I notice a lot of the names on the KHSAA Site have the two letters “SR.” beside them. I can’t figure out what that means. It doesn’t mean “senior” because some of the ladies also have that destination beside their names.

LRM NOTE: It is an understatement when Rob says it has been very busy at his household the past few weeks. Rob just got married a couple of months ago. And then to top that off, Rob and his wife found that they are already expecting a baby. All that plus his getting a new school year started.
For those of you new to this network, Rob puts out a nice newsletter at least once a week on girls’ basketball in the state of Florida and surrounding states. His e-mail service, like mine, is free. If you want to get on his mail list, just give him a reply at the address above. If you don’t have to read it every time, it is easy to delete it sometimes.
