FABC PRESIDENT LARRY BROWN....
The Florida Association of Basketball Coaches has asked me to put together a committee of 7 coaches per CLASS from around the State of Florida to create an "ALL STATE / MISS BASKETBALL" SELECTION COMMITTEE. I would need 7 INVOLVED and DEPENDABLE coaches to send me information from their area and create a committee to help select the ALL-STATE awards for EACH CLASS! There was NO All-State awards last year in Girl's Basketball. As you know, I do not like to "rank" kids, but I am willing to help compile a list of FIRST, SECOND, THIRD, and HONOR MENTION if there is support from others around the state!
Let me know if you are interested in volunteering on this committee. Probably take 1 hour of time a week MAX to compile and send data.

Found out that my school is being fined $130,000 by the Florida Department of Education for our 9th GRADE classes ONLY being over the state mandated 25 student per class limit. I figured my school is probably being fined half a million by itself. My question is: WHERE DOES THIS MONEY GO? It would be like watching The University of Florida Police Department write a ticket on a state vehical for parking on the sidewalk! It would be like fining the homeless for not having health insurance....
As Charlie Brown says, GOOD GRIEF!!!! ... Better yet, ARRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHH!

Speaking of Lawsuits, Fines, and Cease and Desist Orders...
How about Glades Day Country School in Belle Glade, Florida having to pay $60,000 to remove the "University of Florida" trademark GATOR logo from their gym floor!
Palm Beach Gardens was sent a letter by the Collegiate Licensing Company, who represents UF, FSU, ect.... PBGCS has to replace scoreboards and other on campus logos. Palm Beach Gardens has used the Gator logos since it's first principal had run the school back in the 1960's I believe.
Southeast High School in Bradenton was issued a letter to stop using the ORANGE AND BLUE "Seminole" Head Logo. That logo has been used FOREVER in a day as well.
I have seen quite a few schools with the "Gators" helmet on the field, including Pop Warner teams.
I see both sides of the coin. The University's Athletic Associations are private corporations that pay to rent school facilities (like UF's basketball teams with the O'Connell Center), but this is making the very LARGE associations at these big colleges look like monsters. As it is, you have people talking about the money the colleges bring in vs. scholarships out.
This is going to be a heated topic around many SPORT programs.

Note From Connie Silver
Just a very heartfelt thank you for all of the prayers, concerns, and you continuous asking about how I am doing. I am doing above and beyond the doctors expectations. I know it was your prayers because I was so far down in the pit from the drugs I had to take for pain that I knew God was there , but I could not feel Him. It is great to be myself again and on the road to recovery. Once again I will never forget that you all were there when I needed you. Prayer "pays back". Duane and I have always stopped and honored any request for prayer from any of you and now I know it was just my turn.. : ) Connie

*If you have a prayer request go ahead and send it to us and we will pray for you or whatever your need is. (We will keep your prayer request private)(DS)

"COACHES, DON'T LET FEAR CONTROL YOU"
1.) One of Satan's greatest weapons is Fear!
2.) The Lion's Roar does two things to its prey (1) Make it run from its protection, (2) Make it freeze (It says in l Peter 5:8..."Be sober, be vigilant: because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about seeking who he may devour."
3.) Don't fear failure as a coach, you learned to walk by falling down several times didn't you? You are going to make mistakes in this life don't don't give up keep trying!
4.) Some coaches fear ridicule. We coaches should all know that parents are going to second guess us. Right?
5.) God does not give us the Spirit of Fear....It comes from the enemy! Think about it. (2nd Timothy 1:7)
6.) It says Fear Not in the Bible 366 times... God even has one fear in there for leap year.
7.) Fear causes us to make bad choices...
8.) We Christian coaches need to realize we have a target on our backs and we are alway (every day) under attack by the enemy. Sometimes our enemies are the admistrators, fellow teachers, parents, and players. Satan always tries to attack the Christians first because he wants to ruin our testimony.
9.) Fear messes with your Perspective: Remember in The Old Testament when the Jews sent spies out before going into the Promised Land, they said when they got back, we are like grasshoppers compared to the giants in the land. They had forgotten that they had God on their side, who can defeat any giant. (Note in this years World Cup Soccer Tour...Switzerland defeated Spain and Spain was a 250 to 1 favorite...Later Spain Did win the World Cup...This was their only loss.)
God Bless You,
